Buchanan Dam has a story worth telling. Buchanan Dam began as the construction camp for the first of the big flood control and power dams on the Colorado River. After bankruptcy shut the project down in 1932, Congressman James Paul Buchanan won federal money to revive it in 1934, and the dam, the post office and the town were renamed in his honor. The project was first called Bluffton Dam, then Hamilton Dam. The finished dam was dedicated on October 16, 1937. That's from the Handbook of Texas.
Buchanan Dam is a community in Llano County. The Census Bureau counted 1,508 people here in 2020.
