Every town has a first chapter, and Herbster is no exception. Herbster's log community center was a WPA project, begun in October 1939 with spruce, balsam and red oak cut from land owned by the local school district. Hundreds came to its dedication on July 13, 1940, an event regarded as the biggest in the history of the county. It served as the town hall and the school gym, and the dedication night ended with a dance to Jack Monroe's Orchestra. That's from the National Register of Historic Places.

Herbster is a community in Bayfield County. The Census Bureau counted 130 people here in 2020.
