Did You Know?

Aragon was one of the early Spanish settlements in this part of New Mexico, where families often lived by raising sheep. The village grew up around old Fort Tularosa, which served from 1872 to 1874 as an agency for Apache people moved there from the Ojo Caliente reservation. When they left in 1874, the fort was abandoned. In 1972 about twenty families lived along nearly two miles of the road, most of them ranching and farming with water from the Tularosa River.
