Did You Know?
Circle was founded in 1893 as a supply point for the gold camps, and early miners named it Circle because they believed it sat on the Arctic Circle. By 1896 it was the largest mining town on the Yukon, with 700 people, an opera house, a library, a hospital and eight or ten dance halls. The Klondike and Nome gold strikes nearly emptied it. That's from the State of Alaska community database.
