Did You Know?
Bolivar was named for General Simon Bolivar, back when the South American patriot was a popular hero. By 1940 most people here worked in the oil fields. Some farmers pumped small amounts of oil with donkey engines. After milking their cows, they brought in the oil, and truckers hauled it from the gate to refineries. That’s from the 1940 WPA guide to New York.
