Beach Park Station and the electric railway
Beach Park Station once served both passengers and the cars they rode. According to the Beach Park Station historical marker, the Lorain & Cleveland Railway built the brick station in 1897. Workers repaired rail cars there, and passengers boarded for their trips. The station's Lake Road address ties this story to a street you can find on the print.
By 1901, the railway was part of the Lake Shore Electric Railway. Beach Park became stop 65 on a line from Cleveland to Toledo, then Detroit. The railway needed power and water to run. It built an electric plant and a water tower at Avon Lake. Those services helped the town grow, giving this old rail stop a role beyond travel.
