The Old Path Through Duboistown to the River
Duboistown's story starts long before its streets. The History of Lycoming County, printed in 1892, gives the borough a chapter of its own. It begins with Indian history and early land surveys. Its chapter heading lists Andrew Culbertson, Galbraith Patterson and Samuel Caldwell, and the beginnings of DuBoistown.
The same book traces an old Indian path. It followed Spring Creek to its source. Then it went over Bald Eagle Mountain and into Mosquito Valley. From there it ran through the narrows, by way of Duboistown, down to the river. People crossed the water at a ford just west of the mouth of Mosquito Run. On the far shore, by Lycoming Creek, stood an Indian village.
On the map, the town's streets fill the middle and the wide river runs along the top. The book says the old path came through the narrows by way of Duboistown to the river, so long before Euclid Avenue, people came through here to reach the water.
