Map of Village of Oak Creek, Arizona in 2026

The pioneers called this wide open stretch among the red rocks Big Park, and since the early 1960s it’s been the Village of Oak Creek, with Bell Rock rising at its north end. This map of the Village of Oak Creek prints the Village of Oak Creek Post Office, The Oakcreek Country Club, Sedona Golf Resort, the Village of Oak Creek Church of the Nazarene and Sedona Fire District Station 3, with Jacks Canyon, La Barranca Wash and Bell Canyon Tank giving shape to the land.

The Village of Oak Creek is an unincorporated community in Yavapai County, about seven miles from Sedona.

KNOWOL made this map in 2026 and gave modern data the look of a vintage atlas. The shaded relief of the landscape comes from United States Geological Survey elevation data, and the streets were drawn from Census Bureau files. The village lies within Big Park, the census-designated place the Census Bureau counts it under, which had 6,147 people at the 2010 census, and it sits at about 4,000 feet, surrounded by the Coconino National Forest.

Big Park among the red rocks

Long before the pioneers named Big Park, the Oak Creek band of the Tonto Apache, Tsé Hichii Indee, “Horizontal Red Rock People,” lived near today’s Sedona along Oak Creek and Dry Beaver and Wet Beaver creeks, sharing the country with the Yavapai. The community first appeared in the census as the Oak Creek Precinct in 1910 and then didn’t show up again until 1990, when it was counted as Big Park; in 2010 the census name changed to Village of Oak Creek, though census documents still call it Big Park as well. Today it’s a bedroom community for Sedona, and its economy rests on tourism and on serving retirees and second-home owners. The red rock around it holds the heat of the day and gives it back at night, the area gets more than 275 sunny days a year, and in 2016 Big Park and the Village of Oak Creek became a designated Dark Sky Community.

Just west of the village, between Oak Creek and Red Rock Crossing, is Verde Valley School, which Hamilton and Barbara Warren opened in 1948 to bring together students of different cultures and backgrounds. The anthropologists Clyde Kluckhohn and Margaret Mead and John Collier, Franklin Roosevelt’s Commissioner of Indian Affairs, helped guide its early years, and early students took anthropology and Spanish and made yearly trips to Mexico and nearby reservations. For years the Verde Valley Music Festival was held there on the first weekend of October to raise money for Native American scholarships at the school, with Jackson Browne, whose son attended, nearly always on the bill, and Neil Young and Bruce Cockburn among past headliners. The English portrait and abstract artist Kevin Geary, whose work hangs in the National Portrait Gallery in London, moved to the Village of Oak Creek in 2008.

Around the map

The Bell Rock scenic area adjoins the village’s north end. Bell Rock is a butte 4,919 feet high, built of flat-lying layers of the Permian Supai Formation, and a moderate hike reaches a small plateau on its northwest face. Just east of it stands Courthouse Butte, 5,454 feet high, first climbed in the early 1900s, and one of its main trails runs 4.5 miles from the North Bell Rock Trailhead. A Forest Service visitor center stands at the south end of the village. The Coconino National Forest takes its name from the Hopi word for the Havasupai and Yavapai people, and its Red Rock Ranger District has its office in Sedona. The Community Library Sedona in the Village, the Village of Oak Creek Post Office, The Oakcreek Country Club, Sedona Golf Resort, the Village of Oak Creek Church of the Nazarene, Sedona Fire District Station 3, Jacks Canyon, La Barranca Wash and Bell Canyon Tank all have their places on the sheet.
