Residents of Carver Ranches, Lake Forest, Miami Gardens and Utopia voted 3,400 to 956 in 2004 to form a city. It became the 31st city in Broward County on March 1, 2005. Because much of it lies west of Pembroke Park, it took the name West Park, and the name stuck.
