If you grew up in Washington, or your family still lives near Downtown Washington, this map was made for you. It's a modern aerial view of Washington in Franklin County, Missouri, built from modern data and given a vintage artistic feel. Downtown Washington is printed near the center, right beside a wide blue river. Red buildings spread south from the water into green, shaded hills. Open green land fills the far side of the river.

How Washington Landing started
Washington started at the water's edge. The State Historical Society of Missouri keeps an old file of town names. It says there was a boat landing here as early as 1822. In time, people called it Washington Landing. On the map, look for Downtown Washington by the river. West Front Street is printed close by.
Old homes on Jefferson Street and Stafford Street
Much of the old town still stands. The Tibbe Historic District was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1990. Its edges follow Front, Market, Main, Lafayette, Second, Fifth and Cedar streets, among others. In 2000, the Register added more than two dozen other Washington houses and buildings. Several are on Jefferson Street, like the George Tamm Building and the Dr. H.A. May House. Others stand on Stafford Street, High Street, Lafayette Street and Locust Street.
