Every town has a first chapter, and Avon is no exception. Bill Cramer of the Northern Pacific's advance survey crew fell for the Little Blackfoot Valley when he passed through in 1882. He came back in 1884, started the settlement of Avon and became its first postmaster. The first train over the Continental Divide brought four barrels of whiskey and Cramer's wife. Gold strikes in the Ophir, Snowshoe and Washington gulches had brought a flood of miners to the area in 1865 and 1866. That's from the Montana Historical Society.

Avon is a community in Powell County. The Census Bureau counted 114 people here in 2020.
