Here is a piece of Continental Divide history. Old Route 66 reached its highest point, 7,263 feet, where it crossed the Continental Divide. The road was gravel until 1937, when it was straightened and paved, and it carried Route 66 traffic until Interstate 40 replaced it after 1956. On the climb to the divide, pastures gave way to pinyon and juniper country, with Navajo homesteads, trading posts and other businesses along the roadside. That's from the National Register of Historic Places.

Continental Divide is a community in McKinley County. The Census Bureau counted 187 people here in 2020.
