Twin Lakes has a story worth telling. Twin Lakes was the second Navajo chapter ever established, after Leupp, and long before its first chapter house was built in 1956, Navajo leaders met here before taking their concerns to Window Rock. The community was named for two small lakes on either side of the highway, which have since dried up. Tom Lee, a Bataan Death March survivor and the chapter's first president, came from here and became the first Native American to win a seat in the New Mexico State Senate. That's from the Navajo Times.
Twin Lakes is a community in McKinley County. The Census Bureau counted 1,004 people here in 2020.
