Did You Know?
Thomas Bemus started a ferry between Bemus Point and Stow in 1811. His first boat was a raft he poled across Chautauqua Lake. Until a bridge opened on October 30, 1982, the ferry was the only way to cross the lake. A cable-drawn ferry still operates there today.
