Did You Know?
For a long time, Ripley was the busiest place in New York State to get married fast. Rival justices put large signs in front of their homes, lit with neon at night. They stayed open 24 hours a day for out-of-state couples. Then the Todd marriage law required three days between license and wedding, and the business vanished. That’s from the 1940 WPA guide to New York.
