Did You Know?
French Protestant refugees made a settlement at New Paltz in 1677. They built along a ridge overlooking the Wallkill River. In 1940, a group of their fieldstone houses still stood clustered on Huguenot Street. That surviving cluster was known as Huguenot Village. That’s from the 1940 WPA guide to New York.
