Woodvale Cemetery began with a gift of land in the mid-1800s. According to its historical marker, the Klink family gave half an acre for burials. Fred G. Klink, who died in 1858, has the oldest marked grave. In 1876, Frank M. Stearns suggested the name Woodvale. It came from the wooded vale beside the grounds. You can find Woodvale Cemetery on the map near Engle Road and Fowles Road.
A fire destroyed the caretaker's house and many cemetery records in 1908. In 1931, Woodvale became a nonprofit union cemetery, owned by Berea and the Village of Middleburg Heights. By then, it covered 35 acres. The families buried there include the Fowles, Sprague, and Stearns families. Fowles Road is one name you can also pick out on this print.
