New Concord is John Glenn's hometown. His boyhood home at 72 Main Street joined the National Register in 2018. The National Register nomination for the house tells what happened after he went to space. Glenn came home and spoke to his town. It had 2,127 people then. "From a swim in the college pool to outer space is a big jump and it could happen nowhere else in this country," he said. His feelings showed, and he paused. Then he said, "It's great to be an American, it's great to be home." He came back to mark big moments more than once. Today John Glenn School Road carries his name.

Schools on Stormont Street and College Drive

The same nomination says the early residents were very interested in public education. The village had only 200 people back then. New Concord-Union High School, at 4 Stormont Street, joined the National Register in 2024. Paul Hall at Muskingum College has been listed since 1973. You can find Stormont Street and College Drive on the map.
