If you grew up in Aldan, or you have family on Oak Avenue or Magnolia Avenue, this map shows your home streets from above. It's a new aerial view of Aldan in Delaware County, Pennsylvania, made from modern data and given a vintage look. Every building in the borough shows as a small red shape, set in tight rows along the streets. A rail line runs diagonally past the northwest edge of the borough, and a blue creek winds along the top.

The Slinky, Made Near Springfield Road
A famous toy was made close to Aldan. A state historical marker in nearby Clifton Heights tells the story. Richard James invented the Slinky in 1943. His wife, Betty, gave it its name. The toy was made there at James Industries until 1965. In 1960, Richard left the family and gave Betty control of a company that was nearly broke. She built it into a business worth millions, with toys sold around the world. In 2001, she was named to the Toy Industry Hall of Fame. The marker calls the Slinky one of the most popular toys of the 20th century. It stands at 2 W Baltimore Pike, at the corner of Springfield Road. Springfield Road is one of the roads printed on this map.
