Edward Hicks lived on Penn Street
Newtown was home to Edward Hicks. A state historical marker calls him a famed primitive artist. He lived here on Penn Street from 1821 to 1849. He painted farm scenes and stories from the Bible. He made more than fifty versions of The Peaceable Kingdom, based on a prophecy of Isaiah. Hicks also painted coaches and signs. He was a Quaker preacher, too.
