If you grew up on Crawford Avenue or still have family in North Manor or Greenwood Heights, this one's for you. It's a new aerial view of Connellsville in Fayette County, Pennsylvania, made from modern data and given a vintage look. A wide blue river bends through the middle of town. Downtown and City Hall sit on the east bank, and West Crawford Avenue runs out across the river to the west side. More than 5,000 red buildings fill the valley, and green hills rise on every side.
The Connellsville Canteen on Water Street
On this map you'll find East Crawford Avenue, West Crawford Avenue, Connellsville City Hall, Memorial Boulevard, North Pittsburgh Street, South Pittsburgh Street, Water Street, Hill Grove Cemetery, Snyder Street, Morrell Avenue, Blackstone Road, North Manor, Snydertown, New Haven, Greenwood Heights, and more. Each red shape is a building, so zoom in on the preview and look for yours.
During World War II, 600,000 troops passed through Connellsville. From 1944 until 1946, about 800 women of all ages met them at the B&O Railroad station. A state historical marker tells the story. The volunteers furnished food and drink 24 hours a day and drove troops to their homes. They ran it all from offices on North Water Street, where the marker stands today. You'll find Water Street printed on the map.
Old Buildings Downtown
Downtown still holds some of the town's proudest old buildings. The National Register of Historic Places lists the Carnegie Free Library on South Pittsburgh Street. It also lists the old post office on North Arch Street and the Connellsville Union Passenger Depot on West Crawford Avenue.
