Did You Know?

The whole Dixon community was once called Embudo, which means funnel, a name Spanish settlers gave the place. When the little plaza town north of the railroad opened its first post office, the people chose to name it Dixon, in honor of Collins Dixon, a teacher who generously helped the community. By 1910 the Presbyterian mission school was up and running. After long days in the fields, the men made 30,000 adobes and hauled stone for its foundation, and the women mixed mud and lime to whitewash its walls. That's from the Embudo Valley Library.
