Did You Know?
Navy Lieutenant Commander H. B. Mansfield named Hobart Bay in 1889. Point Hobart, about a mile to the south, is much older: Captain George Vancouver named it after Lieutenant Joseph Whidbey found it on August 13, 1794, and gave it the name of John Hobart, an English earl. That's from the USGS Dictionary of Alaska Place Names.
