Lincoln is a town in Penobscot County.

KNOWOL made this map in 2026 from public survey records, United States Geological Survey elevation data and Census Bureau files. Its atlas layout brings together Lincoln’s streets, buildings, neighborhoods, ponds and waterways, and terrain, the town boundary and the pattern of buildings.

A birthplace and a farming advocate

Lincoln took its name from Maine governor Enoch Lincoln in 1829. The town developed around a water-powered sawmill on the east bank of the Penobscot River.

Agriculturist and poet Russell Libby was born in Lincoln in 1956. He later served as executive director of the Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association from 1995 to 2012, advocating for local food and sustainable farming.

During Libby’s tenure, the association established its Common Ground Education Center in Unity. Libby’s own Three Sisters Farm was in Mount Vernon, where he also served on the school board and as a selectman.
