Did You Know?

At the time of the Revolution, the village had only a dozen or so houses, two churches, a tavern and a school. Early in the war, the Colonials fortified Wiccopee Pass to block a British advance by land. Barracks and storehouses rose here, and refugees from New York City crowded into the few houses. That’s from the 1940 WPA guide to New York.
