Did You Know?

Ticonderoga sits on the neck of land between Lake George and Lake Champlain. Its name comes from the Native word Cheonderoga, meaning between two waters. The French built a military road along the old portage path between the lakes. In 1755 they built Fort Carillon, which later became Fort Ticonderoga. That’s from the 1940 WPA guide to New York.
