How Beulah Park Began West of Harrisburg Pike

Beulah Park started with a father and his daughter. In 1889, a local businessman named A. G. Grant went to the village of Grove City with a plan. He wanted to build new homes on farmland west of Harrisburg Pike. That land had once belonged to William Foster Breck, the town's founder. Grant called the new homes the Beulah Addition, after his daughter, Beulah. His own grandparents, Hugh and Catherine Grant, were Jackson Township's first settlers. To draw buyers, Grant added a park. People came to the wooded grounds for picnics, concerts, speeches and baseball games. Soon the park grew to hold a small racetrack. That's how Beulah Park Race Track got its start, as told on the Beulah Park marker from the Ohio History Connection.
The Beulah Park Marker and the Grant Homestead
The marker stands at the roundabout where Columbus Street meets Southwest Boulevard. Both roads are printed on this map. The Grant family's homestead still stands on Haughn Road, too. The National Register lists it as the A. G. Grant Homestead.
