Arlington once went by another name: Hurdtown. The village history marker on Park Street tells how it began. Robert Hurd owned land here. His sons built a log cabin near the marker's site in 1834. They were the area's first recorded settlers. Rich farmland and plenty of water drew more people. The village took the name Arlington when it was surveyed in November 1844.
