The brick church built at Glenwood about 1870
Glenwood's church story goes back to about 1870. Around then, the Congregational Church had a group at Glenwood. Its members built a brick church in the village. They worshiped there until 1878. Then they sold the building to a Presbyterian group. That's how an 1888 county history tells it. By the time the book was written, the Presbyterian group had closed too. The brick church stood empty and worn. Still, Glenwood had built a church of brick by about 1870. Today the thickest cluster of red buildings on the map sits around Main Street, Locust Street and South Avenue.
There was a Methodist church near Glenwood too. The same history says the Methodist Episcopal Church South had a group called Bethel Church. It stood about three miles southwest of Glenwood.
