Did You Know?
In 1939, Everglades was the seat of Collier County and the southern end of the Atlantic Coast Line Railway. A great royal poinciana tree grew in town, one of the largest in Florida. Its branches spread 68 feet, and each summer it bloomed with bright scarlet flowers. That’s from the 1939 WPA guide to Florida.
