Lake View is a plantation in Piscataquis County.
KNOWOL made this map in 2026 from public survey records, United States Geological Survey elevation data and Census Bureau files. Its atlas layout brings together Lake View’s streets, buildings, neighborhoods, ponds and waterways, and terrain, the plantation boundary and the pattern of buildings.
Spools and a school
The Merrick Thread Company chose the Lake View settlement for its timber, which it wanted for spool manufacturing. Land clearing began in 1888, followed by construction of a mill, boarding house and tenement houses in 1889.
A school building followed in 1891. According to the plantation’s history, residents held their first school-plantation meeting in 1892 after the subscription plan for running the school failed. Lake View Plantation was organized in 1895.
The schoolhouse also hosted early church services. A later school building was constructed in 1909, and the earlier building was remodeled as a chapel.
