Here is a piece of Bear Dance history. Bear Dance got its name in 1891 from Mr. and Mrs. J. S. Robbins of the Creston area, who stayed the night here on a wagon trip from Polson. Someone had killed a bear that day, so the people shared out the meat and held a dance to celebrate. A Forest Service cabin went up near Bear Dance in 1909, and Jim Frye served as fire guard there for 27 years, probably the longest tenure in the history of the Flathead. That's from the Flathead National Forest.
Bear Dance is a community in Lake County. The Census Bureau counted 281 people here in 2020.
