Did You Know?
Pennington dates from 1697, when Johannes Lawrenson bought the land. The village was first called Queenstown, in honor of Queen Anne. Because it was so small, some people jokingly called it Penny Town. By about 1747 the name Pennington had stuck for good. That’s from the 1939 WPA guide to New Jersey.
