The Iron Bridge at Station Road
On March 31, 1881, leaders from Summit and Cuyahoga Counties met together. They opened bids for an iron bridge over the Cuyahoga River. It would sit on the county line near Brecksville Station. Six bridge companies sent in bids. The Massillon Bridge Company of Massillon, Ohio, built it. The bridge bears the date 1882. It links Brecksville with Sagamore Hills in Summit County. Its National Register nomination calls it a double-intersection Pratt type. Station Road is printed on the map, so you can find it there.
The Ahola Marker on West Snowville Road
Brecksville has a business story from 1967, too. An Ohio historical marker stands at 6820 West Snowville Road. It honors the Ahola Corporation, started in 1967 by Chet and Rheta Ahola. Chet was a computer programmer. Rheta was a data analyst and a "debugger." Back then, that meant taking out the moths drawn to the heat of the big computers. For many small businesses, the company was their first look at what a computer could do.
