Harmony is a town in Somerset County.

KNOWOL made this map in 2026 from public survey records, with modern geography and the look of a vintage atlas. United States Geological Survey elevation data gives the terrain its shading. Census Bureau files supply the roads and municipal boundary, with buildings and water features brought together in the aerial view.

A teacher and poet from Harmony

Harmony was incorporated as a town in 1803. The town had 825 residents at the 2020 census. Its history includes the life of teacher and poet Helen Marr Hurd, who was born here in 1839.

Hurd prepared for teaching despite severe myopia and taught in about thirty schools before her eyesight brought that work to an end. She then devoted her time to writing. Her published collection Poetical Works was illustrated by Allie Collins, and she also prepared a novel and a history of Hallowell.

Hurd later made her home in Athens. Her literary and teaching work extended beyond Harmony, while her birthplace and burial place were here. The story adds a particular person’s work to the town’s local names.
