The Onondaga Nation lies in the middle of Haudenosaunee territory, south of the City of Syracuse. It’s known as the Central Fire, the place where the Hoyá•neh, the chiefs, meet in a Grand Council. Onondaga is still governed by its traditional government, with fourteen Onondaga chiefs and their clan mothers as caretakers of the land, ceremonies, and governmental relations with other nations.

We designed the artwork at KNOWOL to read like a page from an old atlas. Buildings are drawn as small raised blocks with soft shadows, shaded relief shows the rise and fall of the land, and street names are set in clean, condensed lettering. A ruled border, a scale bar, and a title panel with the reservation’s coordinates finish the sheet.
