Lyman is a town in York County.

Ponds and watermills
Lyman was incorporated in 1778. The settlement was once called Swanfield and later Coxhall; it took the name Lyman in 1803 to honor merchant Theodore Lyman.
Farms produced grain, hay and apples, and watermills operated at pond outlets. Swan Pond had sawmills, and a mill also stood at Kennebunk Pond.
A sawmill and gristmill were built at Goodwins Mills in 1782. The village extends into neighboring Dayton as well as Lyman.
