Milbridge is a town in Washington County.
KNOWOL made this map in 2026 from public survey records, United States Geological Survey elevation data and Census Bureau files. Its atlas layout brings together Milbridge’s roads, buildings, ponds and waterways, and terrain, the town boundary and the pattern of buildings.
At the mouth of the Narraguagus
Milbridge sits at the mouth of the Narraguagus River, which runs 55.3 miles from Eagle Lake through Cherryfield to its mouth here. The river was once well known for fly fishing for Atlantic salmon, though the native run has been much reduced.
The town was incorporated in 1848 and takes in two villages, Milbridge and Wyman. Water makes up 48.72 of its 72.97 square miles, by Census Bureau figures. Agriculture, commercial fishing, retail and tourism make up the local economy.
Writers, a judge and a film
The author Sue Hubbell lived in Milbridge, and her books A Country Year and A Book of Bees were both named Notable Books of the Year by The New York Times Book Review. Federal judge Gene Carter was born in Milbridge, and director and actress Katie Aselton comes from here. The film The Puffy Chair was shot in town.
